Graham + Sibbald Chartered Surveyors and Property Consultants are pleased to announce the recent hire of James Honeyman to their growing Business Rates + Financial Management team.
Jim formerly worked at DM Hall LLP as a Director and was responsible for the running and management of their Commercial teams across Tayside, Perth and Fife.
Keen to re-enter the world of work on a part time basis following his retirement at the end of 2021, Jim is looking forward to working with the Graham + Sibbald team once again, having left the business back in 2004 following a 30 year career.
With the upcoming Business Rates Revaluation, Jim boasts a broad range of professional experience as a General Practice Chartered Surveyor which will be greatly beneficial in managing client demand from end of November when the new valuation roll will be available confirming new Rateable Values for the next three years.
Jim commented,
“It’s great to be back at Graham + Sibbald and seeing how much the business has changed, even in recent years and months! This was a great opportunity for me to take on a Consultancy role and share my knowledge and skillset with the G+S Business Rates team.”
“The 2023 Revaluation poses a significant likely change in the value of a number of property types and so there is much concern surrounding this, particularly if various relief opportunities are taken away. I look forward to working with a number of clients, both old and new, to help them understand and question their new values once formally received.”
While the full impact of the upcoming Revaluation has yet to be determined, Golf Clubs have already been hit particularly hard with increased utility costs and if their rates relief options are withdrawn, many will struggle. Jim is currently the Captain at Landbank Golf Club where he noted that the impact could be significant.
Sarah Fitzpatrick, Rating Surveyor at Graham + Sibbald said, “We’re delighted to welcome Jim back to Graham + Sibbald and look forward to tapping in to his unique knowledge and expertise to assist our clients through the next Revaluation. Things are changing both in terms of the appeal process and requirements to be met in order to question any new values!”
The Graham + Sibbald team can help if you are looking for advice and support to help you navigate the complex world of commercial property rates and take advantage of any relief schemes or discounts that are available.
