Further to the recent launch of their new Carbon + Sustainability department, Graham + Sibbald are putting a large focus on the environmental impact of their business and limiting their emissions going forward.
Graham + Sibbald staff member, Murdo McAndrew, has created a sustainable side-business which aims to provide eco-friendly and sustainably sourced branded merchandise to businesses across the UK. From bamboo pens and recycled leather notebooks, to glass water bottles, cork folders and more – there are all great alternatives to plastic with more to come.
Murdo, who is a Graduate Surveyor based within Graham + Sibbald’s Edinburgh office, commented “Since plastic was invented in 1907, it has become a leading material in production and packaging though its disposal is currently ravaging our environment. The Eco Effect was founded to help businesses source products that were brandable, reliable and sustainable! I’m delighted to be supplying high quality products to my colleagues across the UK.”
The global demand for ballpoint pens alone is estimated to be around 50 billon pens per annum, which sadly cannot be recycled within the UK. This leads to them either going to landfill or contributing to the 5 trillion+ pieces of plastic currently floating in oceans around the world.
Graham + Sibbald’s Carbon + Sustainability department are well placed to help businesses work towards their energy and sustainability goals. From planning and technical services advice to analysis of your carbon emissions and usage, they will work with you to determine realistic and cost-effective solutions. Boasting a wide geographical reach, they are able to respond quickly to client requests and gives then national coverage – something many of their competitors cannot match.
Calum Campbell, Managing Partner at Graham + Sibbald, said “The business is working hard to reduce our carbon footprint and so we’re delighted to support Murdo and his business partners in their new venture. We all need to work together to create a more sustainable, green future and this will be a great move for us in the long term as we continue to develop our business and set an example within the property sector.”
