Rating Revaluation 1 April 2026
The next commercial Rating Revaluation, based on rents and costs around April 2025, will take effect from the above date (1 April 2026). This requires all Scottish Assessors to obtain property information in order to calculate the new rateable values.
Draft Figures
Draft valuation Notices will be issued around November 2025. This does not permit a formal challenge but is supposed to allow initial discussions with Assessors. Corrections of errors can be made. The formal Notice will be issued Feb/ March 2026 with the timescale for formal challenge confirmed at that time – probably end July 2026.
We would be pleased to discuss on receipt of these draft Notices.
Returns of Information
Returns issued by the Assessor seek property information on the lease, rent, costs, turnover, physical changes to the building(s) and confirmation of occupation and use. If incorrect information is provided this could have an adverse effect on the new rateable value.
It is likely these forms will be issued in bulk from January/ February/ March of 2025 with a statutory fine if not returned timeously within 28 days. Please do not ignore these forms as we are aware of ratepayers who have received a penalty notice.
We would be pleased to advise, as these forms can be complex.
