Senior Quantity Surveyor
Ian joined Graham + Sibbald in December 2024 as a Senior Quantity Surveyor. Since graduating from the University of Salford in 1993 and then UMIST in 1996, Ian gained 18+ years of experience working, primarily within the UK construction industry + surveying profession, attaining considerable cross-sector experience. More recently, Ian has worked at a couple of smaller consultancies, Fellows Construction Consultants and KOK, where his roles often combined working as a traditional QS, alongside that of an Employer’s Agent on several D+B projects within the residential, commercial and education sectors. Whilst at Fellows, Ian’s role also gave him some significant involvement in the settling of a legal dispute by providing cost expertise as part of a Knight Frank team, who were representing the Duchy of Lancaster in a land dispute with a developer.
Allied to his considerable QS experience in the UK, Ian’s career was punctuated by an 8 year spell living and working abroad in Vancouver, BC, where despite initially working as a PQS within the Canadian construction industry, he then retrained and worked primarily for over 6 years as a fully licensed Realtor® providing Real Estate Trading Services working with both buyers and sellers in the residential sector.
Each side of his time spent in Canada, Ian also enjoyed working for one of the largest consultancies within the profession, with over 7 years spent at Davis Langdon LLP (now AECOM), then upon his return, ‘rejoining’ AECOM for a further couple of years where his main experiences were gained working on a couple of major frameworks in the commercial office sector for various strands of DWP’s business, and the aviation sector for Manchester Airport.
