Graham + Sibbald are delighted to announce the success of Katie Tait (Hotel + Leisure, Edinburgh) and Nick Hastings (Valuation Services, Aberdeen/Dundee), who have successfully passed their Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and are now Chartered Surveyors.
Katie joined Graham + Sibbald in 2016 as an Administrative Assistant working within the Edinburgh Residential department. A keen and fast learner, she later moved to join the Commercial Administrative team in 2019 assisting all departments of Graham + Sibbald, where she gained an interest in Agency and was drawn to the firms Graduate Apprenticeship Programme. Katie enrolled on the Graduate Apprenticeship Programme in 2020, this programme allowed her to work alongside her studies which means she has been able to put her learning into practice. The ability to shadow and support her senior colleagues has been greatly beneficial to her Graduate Studies but also in preparing her for her APC.
Katie commented, “Enrolling on the Graduate Apprenticeship Programme was the best thing I have done for my career. Having the ability to learn from my colleagues while studying allowed me to put theory into practice and have a greater understanding. I am delighted to have now passed my APC and become a Chartered Surveyor. I am looking forward to getting stuck in and better assisting my senior colleagues. I am also looking forward to helping colleagues who are at the start of this process and giving them tips and tricks I have learned over the years.”
Nick joined Graham + Sibbald in May 2025 as a Graduate Surveyor within the Valuation Services Team. Nick has a Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate from Sheffield Hallam University and a Masters Degree from Heriot-Watt University in Real Estate Investment and Finance. He has previously worked in a variety of real estate roles which include Planning in Bristol and Commercial Valuations, CPO and non-domestics rates in Aberdeen covering a nationwide area of clients.
In his day-to-day Nick assists with undertaking a wide range of valuations for a mix of local and national clients, as well as specialising in valuations for public sector bodies across Scotland as part of the commercial valuation team. Outside of G+S, Nick sits on the Compulsory Purchase Association (CPA) Futures Committee and is part of the Diversity & Inclusion working group.
Nick added, “I am delighted to have passed my APC and become a Chartered Surveyor. I am extremely thankful for all the training and support I have had over the last few months from staff not only within my own office but other offices and departments too. I am looking forward to continuing my journey at Graham + Sibbald as a Chartered Surveyor.”
Les McAndrew, Senior Partner, commented, “Everyone at Graham + Sibbald is delighted for Nick and Katie. Nick hasn’t been with us long but it has been great to see his hard work and determination since joining us. Whereas Katie has been with G+S for almost 10 years now and it has been great to see her progress through the years from Admin, to Student Surveyor, Graduate Surveyor and now a Chartered Surveyor.
Both Katie and Nick have had to put in a lot of hard work to get here and the firm could not be prouder of them both. Well done to you both!”
Graham + Sibbald aim to train and develop all of our staff members to allow them to be qualified to the highest level possible, and so our APC candidates are supported and mentored by key qualified staff members.
